He was fondly known as Gatu da.
I met him for the first time very briefly in a get-together at a friend's place. Durga Puja at Raleigh was when I got to know him better and discovered in him a wonderful friend. When Ray's movie Ganashatru was screened in school, we both landed up there. I always looked forward to conversing with him in Bengali, reminiscing about Kolkata, and discussing Bengali literature especially Ray's books with him. I would always catch a glimpse of him somewhere in Hudson, hurrying to his lab. The last three months were all that I knew him for, but even those were enough for me to cherish his memories.
I miss you Gatu da. May your soul rest in peace.
